The photos of eight young people who died of heart conditions

The campaign features a postcard bearing the photographs of eight young Welsh people who died unexpectedly from undiagnosed cardiac complaints.

Cardiac Risk in the Young (Cry) is calling for simple cardiac screening to be made more accessible.

It claims this could prevent hundreds of sudden deaths in the UK every year.

The charity plans to distribute thousands of the postcards and is to ask people to send them to their MP.

Wales is the latest place to take part in the charity's 12-month lobbying tour to highlight sudden cardiac death in the young.

Cry's founder and chief executive, Alison Cox, said: "By showing just some of the faces behind the stories we read and hear about all too often, we can help people begin to understand the heartbreak caused by this cruel killer and highlight the fact that it can happen to anyone, at anytime - usually without warning.

"Yet these eight faces - representing the eight lives lost a week in the UK - show just a snap-shot of the problem.

"We need to keep up the pressure and engage support from as many MPs as possible to make sure we can prevent other families from experiencing such tragic losses."

A well known case of sudden cardiac death in the young is that of Daniel Yorath, the 15-year-old son of former Wales football manager Terry Yorath.

Daniel collapsed and died in 1992 as he was enjoying a kick-about with his father in the back garden of their home.
