Dafydd Wigley left the assembly at the 2003 election |
Former Plaid Cymru president Dafydd Wigley has indicated he may be willing to consider a return to politics. In an interview with BBC Wales' Politics Show, Mr Wigley said he had not ruled out standing at the next Welsh assembly election in 2007.
Mr Wigley, who served as MP for Caernarfon for 27 years, stood down as AM for the same constituency in 2003.
He said be would be "duty bound" to consider a return to the assembly if the party wished it.
Boundary changes
Mr Wigley made his comments about a possible return during an interview about constituency boundary changes for Gwynedd.
The changes would see the Caernarfon constituency he represented as an MP and as an AM re-drawn and called Arfon.
Mr Wigley told the Politics Show that he would consider the possibility of a comeback if a number of factors were met.
He said: "If there was strong pressure from the Plaid Cymru group and from the party as a whole.
"And if there was any constituency that wanted me and there was a feeling there was a job I could do there that couldn't be done by other people, then of course I would be duty bound to consider it."
Mr Wigley represented Caernarfon as an MP between 1974 and 2001 and as an AM between 1999 and 2003.
He served as president of Plaid Cymru on two separate occasions - from 1981-4 and from 1991-2000.
