Staff noticed the rodents in the kitchen |
An invasion of rats have forced the kitchen of a north Wales primary school to be shut. Staff spotted the rodents at Ysgol Y Parchedig Thomas Ellis in Holyhead, Anglesey, last week.
Environmental health officers have shut the kitchen until they "are satisfied that the infestation has been eradicated".
The school is currently obtaining its food "from an alternative source".
An Isle of Anglesey County Council spokesperson confirmed that "rats had entered the kitchen area".
"Environmental health officers and pest control staff of the county council attended the scene," added the spokesperson.
"Immediate action was taken to identify possible routes of entry.
"The kitchen has been thoroughly cleaned, with steps also taken to rid the area of the vermin.
"The school is currently obtaining its food from an alternative source, and the kitchen will remain closed until environmental health officers are satisfied that the infestation has been eradicated."
