The young stars of tomorrow will be able to find inspiration and advice from the sporting stars of today with the launch of a new website.

On Raise your Game sportspeople including runner Kelly Holmes, swimmer David Davies and Wales rugby coach Mike Ruddock share advice and encouragement.

It has been created by the Welsh Assembly Government and BBC Wales Education and Lifelong Learning.

The website was launched by Olympic hurdler Colin Jackson on Monday.

Raise Your Game highlights the ingredients necessary for success and the determination needed to achieve goals and ambitions, through a series of video clips, interviews and diaries.

Scores of top athletes, from cyclists and javelin throwers, to ice hockey player and footballers have shared their knowledge in the website's six sections - inspiration, motivation, preparation, concentration, dedication and commitment.

Help also comes from figures such as fundraiser Jane Tomlinson, who has terminal cancer but has raised more than 1m for cancer charities by competing in triathlons and cycling thousands of miles.

Amateurs also tell their tales of sporting endeavour, including a group of competitors in the annual Santa Run in Newtown, Powys.

The site also offers an online coach featuring training plans, webchats with sporting heroes, and opportunities for young athletes to tell others about their own experiences.

Jackson, a world record-breaker, said: "Being an ambassador for this project is an honour.

"I have travelled across the country to see how the principles of learning and education through sport can be transferred into everyday life.

"I use my skills daily to communicate to the world through sport and I actively encourage people, young and old, to see how sport can broaden their educational horizons."

Jocelyn Andrews, BBC Producer of Raise Your Game, said: "It is fantastic to see the wealth of sporting talent contributing to this site.

"The contributions from the Sports Council for Wales, our partnership with the Welsh Assembly Government and the input from world class athletes such as Michael Johnson, Haile Gebreselassie and Nicole Cooke have made this website a success and learning through sport a reality."
