Huge parts of north Wales have been affected |
A clean-up operation is under way in many parts of Wales after widespread flooding over the weekend. North Wales was badly affected with more than 300 calls made to the fire service, but there were also problems across south Wales.
Some council services were affected on Anglesey on Monday after the authority's offices were flooded.
The old M48 Severn Bridge was closed on Monday morning and 50mph speed restrictions were put in place across
several sections of the M4 in south Wales.
On Anglesey 10,000 gallons of flood water and sewage had to be pumped out from under the council's main offices in Llangefni and 150 staff had to move to other accommodation while the building was dried out.
The council said its switchboard was working on Monday but some services included housing, social services and trading standards were disrupted.
In Beaumaris, some people had to move into temporary accommodation when their homes were flooded.
There were calls for better flood defence systems in Beaumaris after some residents claimed that defences in place to prevent the sea from coming inland held flood water in the town on Saturday.
The flooding caused problems in businesses and home |
Huw Roberts, of North Wales Fire and Rescue Service, said: "The water table in Beaumaris is very high.
"It's come down from behind the castle, flooded the moat and castle and has overflowed.
"There's a drainage problem that needs to be sorted in Beaumaris."
Bangor and Caernarfon were also affected by the floods and the RSPCA and firefighters were called to rescue 200 sheep at Llandyrnog in the Vale of Clwyd.
In south Wales, homes were flooded in Bargoed and in Neath more than 2ft of water surrounded the Metal Box Factory.
John McAtteer , landlord at the Cimla Hotel, Neath, said his pub was flooded for the second time in a month.
He added: "There's bad drainage around here. It was underneath a foot of water - it was coming in through the drains like a river.
"It left quite a bit of mess - it's the second time in a month it has happened."
Mid and West Wales Fire Service were also called to several homes in Briton Ferry, Pontardawe, Clydach, Gorseinon, and Mumbles.
