Prince Charles met Gladys Elles, 85, in Trefriw, Conwy

The tour started in Trefriw, Conwy, where the prince saw the river which caused extensive flooding in February.

The prince's mid-year visit to Wales has become a permanent July fixture.

Recently, he has been accompanied by Camilla Parker Bowles, but Clarence House has confirmed she is not with him this time.

"She is not involved in the visit at all, " a spokeswoman said.

In Trefriw, the prince assessed the damage that flooding from the River Conwy caused to local houses and saw the village hit the headlines across the world.

He also met representatives of the emergency services, council workers, coastguards and residents, as well as walking through the village to the community hall to a country market.

He also met more flood victims during his tea room visit in Llanrwst, which was also affected by the floods five months ago.

The prince then travelled to the former hospital in Denbigh in his capacity as President of the Prince of Wales's Phoenix Trust.

The trust was set up to repair and find new uses for major historic buildings which are in danger of falling into decay or facing demolition.

The prince is officially launching the public consultation of the trust's proposals for re-developing the Grade II-listed building, which has been vandalised in recent years.

Over the next three days, the prince will also visit Carmarthen, the Prince Charles Hospital in Merthyr Tydfil and the winners of the Queen's Award for Enterprise in Cardiff Bay.

During his three-day tour of Wales, the prince will sleep on the royal train.

Prince Charles visited north Wales twice last year including during a visit to Anglesey and then Newport to help celebrate Prince William's 21st birthday.
