The eisteddfod had faced financial problems

In a meeting held to discuss the festival's future, the council agreed organisational changes were needed.

Eisteddfod officials have denied changes would be made to the festival field's language policy.

They deny the Welsh language only rule on the field or maes would not be applied as strictly in future.

In the meeting at Ysgol Penweddig, Aberystwyth on Saturday the council unanimously decided on the need to change the management structure of the festival.

"The important thing is that we have agreed to change the way the eisteddfod is governed," said Elfed Roberts, the festival director.

"The court will still exist, the council still exists, but the management board now will run the eisteddfod on a day to day basis."

However, some members are worried the centralisation will allow a small group to become too influential.

"I'm far happier as the trustees will be elected and the council will agree with it's rights and powers," said Alwyn Roberts a member of the ruling council.

Campaign group Cylch yr Iaith has said it is concerned there is an attempt to allow the Welsh only policy to slip.

But in November, the other eisteddfod officials need to agree the recommendations to revise the management structure of the festival.

In September the Welsh Language Board agreed to help ease the National Eisteddfod's financial crisis by handing over �40,000.
