Man remanded over '4x4' murders

A 30-year-old man has appeared in court charged with murder in connection with the deaths of three pedestrians hit by a 4x4 vehicle.

Steven John Price, of Pontnewydd, Cwmbran in south Wales, was remanded in custody by Newport magistrates.

John Gibbings, 37, and Martin Connop, 31, both of Pontnewydd, died in Five Locks Road in Pontnewydd, on Wednesday. Emma Proctor, 25, from Cwmbran, died in hospital on Thursday afternoon.

The two men were pronounced dead on arrival at the Royal Gwent Hospital in Newport and Ms Proctor had been treated overnight at the University Hospital Wales in Cardiff.

Mr Price will appear before Newport Crown Court on 23 April. There was no application for bail.

In a statement issued later by Gwent Police Mr Gibbings's family said his death was a "sad loss".

"He will be sadly missed by his family and he had everything to live for," they said.

Ms Proctor's family described her as "a loving daughter and mother that will be sadly missed by everyone that knew her."
