Mr Jones was well-known to local people

The body of Phillip Evan Jones was discovered near Neath two weeks ago.

Alan Richard Payne, from Ystradgynlais, appeared at Swansea Magistrates Court on Saturday charged with his murder.

Graham Dean, 43, was charged with assisting an offender. Both were remanded in custody until 17 August.

They will appear at Swansea Crown Court.

Mr Jones, aged 66, died from head injuries.

He was found on ground near the main A465 Neath flyover on 23 July.

Mr Jones lived in a wooden hut in a nearby field. He was well-known locally and was often given food, drink, and clothes by people in Neath.

Following the discovery of Mr Jones' body, floral tributes were laid on the steps of the main Neath Post Office, where he used to sit every day.
