The Millennium Stadium would be used in the Olympics |
The head of London's bid to host the Olympics in 2012 is visiting Wales to see which venues could be used to bolster the campaign. Barbara Cassani has already confirmed that, if the games do come to Britain, the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff will be used to stage football matches.
On Thursday, Ms Cassani, who chairs London 2012, will also visit the sport facilities at the Cyncoed campus of the University of Wales Institute Cardiff (Uwic), and the Wales National Velodrome in Newport.
She will also meet First Minister Rhodri Morgan and Sports Minister Alun Pugh, who hope Wales can enhance the campaign.
"The Olympic Games is the biggest sporting event in the world and it will be wonderful to see top Welsh athletes successfully competing," said Mr Pugh.
"If London is successful in its bid, it will have enormous benefits not only for London but the whole of the UK.

"Playing our part in the campaign for London to host the 2012 Olympic Games will have massive spin-offs both in terms of tourism and economy, and health and fitness," he added.
Ms Cassani said Wales "would certainly benefit" if London wins the right to stage the games.
"The Millennium Stadium will host part of the Olympic football competition," she said.
"But Wales can benefit from wider sporting, economic, health and social benefits that come from hosting an Olympic Games."
She added that she was looking forward to working with the Welsh Assembly Government and other organisations in Wales to ensure London's bid is as strong as possible.
In recent years, Wales has played host to several prestigious sporting events, including the Rugby World Cup, the FA Cup final and the British speedway grand prix.
Golf's Ryder Cup will also be held at the Celtic Manor Resort, Newport, in 2010.
