Steven Lewis will be back on the force in September |
A police sergeant who was arrested in connection with the brutal murders of a family in Clydach is returning to work, BBC Wales has learned. Steven Lewis has been suspended from South Wales Police for more than three years, but will return to the Neath Port Talbot division in September.
He was arrested, along with his ex-wife Alison Lewis, on suspicion of the violent murders of Mandy Power, her mother Doris Dawson and two young children Katie and Emily in June 1999.
Both he and Ms Lewis were released without charge and, last year, builder David Morris was found guilty of the murders and handed four life sentences.

Sergeant Lewis was told he could return to work last September, and has been considering his position.
Ms Lewis - who was the lesbian lover of murder victim Mandy Power - was also a policewoman at the time, but has since left the force.
During the investigation into the case, Mr Lewis' brother Inspector Stuart Lewis was also held on suspicion of perverting the course of justice - he remains suspended on full pay.
Inspector Lewis' conduct on the day of the murders is still the subject of disciplinary proceedings.
In June 2002, 40-year-old David Morris was found guilty of battering to death divorcee Mandy Power, her two young daughters and her elderly mother.
During the Swansea Crown Court trial, the jury heard how Morris murdered the family after Mandy Power rejected his sexual advances.
Patrick Harrington QC, prosecuting, said Mrs Power had been beaten 38 times with an iron bar.

Eighty-year-old Doris Dawson was murdered as she lay in bed. Morris then set her body alight.
One of the children's bodies lay on the landing. Another was found in their bedroom, still in a cowering position.
Morris was caught after a bloodstained gold necklace, ripped from his neck during the murders, was found in the house by forensic scientists.
