DJ Jaffa hopes to raise money for Amnesty International |
A south Wales hip hop DJ failed in his bid to break the official world record for playing the longest set. DJ Jaffa, who is from Cathays in Cardiff, had been playing continuously since noon on Friday, but fell just short of the official Guinness Book of Records target of 74 hours.
Sheer exhaustion meant he had to give up after 70 hours of spinning records.
The DJ - also known as 34-year-old Jason Farrell of Cathays, Cardiff, began his attempt at noon on Friday and was hoping to play for 80 hours to 2000 BST on Monday, shattering the official Guinness World Record.
Money raised through sponsorship will go to the human rights organisation Amnesty International.
Jaffa hoped that his efforts would raise an awareness of what the organisation does among the younger generation.
"Amnesty International fights for freedom of expression and music is a form of expression - so it seemed to fit nicely," he said.
Eleanor White, programme director for Amnesty International in Wales, was delighted that Jaffa was taking such an interest.
"We have many young supporters who we rely on as we want to raise awareness of human rights issues among young people," she said.
"DJ Jaffa is making a massive difference. It was his idea - he's taken it forward and all credit to him."
The record attempt took place at Cathays Community Centre in Cardiff and was organised by Jaffa's mother-in-law, Debbie Davies.
In accordance with Guinness World Records rules, an audience was present throughout the record attempt.
