Dafydd Iwan has recorded 18 albums so far |
Dafydd Iwan may have put his name forward for the Presidency of Plaid Cymru, but there is a lot more to the man than just politics, namely his music. He is most well known on the Welsh folk circuit for singing traditional cultural songs.
Since 1962, he has composed and performed 200 songs on stage in Wales and beyond.
He has produced 18 albums, including eight CDs, three videos of live concerts, and an autobiography.
He usually appears with his band members, who are Charli Britton (drums), Gari Williams (bass), Euros Rhys, Pwyll ap Sin and Tudur Morgan (guitar).
His songs cover a wide range of styles and subjects, and he has been described as "a country/folk/rock singer-songwriter with attitude".
His daily occupation is Director of the Sain Recording Company, based in Llanddwrog and Pen-y-groes in north Wales.
He is also the founder member the Welsh Language Society, Gwynedd Housing Association, Cymdeithas Tai Eryri, Arianrhod, Canolfan Iaith Nant Gwrtheyrn, and Antur Waunfawr.

He has three brothers - including the actor Huw Ceredig who used to appear in the welsh soap Pobol y Cwm, and Alun Ffred Jones, who has recently been elected to the National Assembly, as the Plaid Cymru AM for Caernarfon.
He lives with his wife Bethan and two young sons, Caio Llyn and Celt Madryn in Rhos-bach near Caernarfon.
He also has three older children by his first marriage, Llion Tegai, Elliw Haf, and Telor Hedd.
