Pub shootings funeral
Farmer William Davies

The funeral of the man suspected of shooting dead a pub landlady before turning the gun on himself has taken place.

Carmarthenshire farmer William Davies, 59, is believed to have killed 27-year-old Caroline Evans, who was pregnant, before turning the gun on himself at the Red Lion pub in Llangadog, west Wales, a week ago.

Meanwhile, inquests into the deaths were opened and adjourned on Thursday.

Mr Davies was convicted of making threats to shoot Miss Evans and assaulting her at a court case in December.

However Miss Evans' father David said Mr Davies continued to stalk his daughter following the court case and condemned the Criminal Prosecution Service for not bringing more serious charges against him.

Police had recommended a charge of threatening to kill but the CPS brought lesser charges, which carried a sentence of community punishment rather than detention.

Mr Davies was ordered to do 60 hours community work, was put under a 24 month supervision order, and received psychiatric treatment in Carmarthen.

He was said to be depressed at the time of the case.

He apparently told Miss Evans prior to the court case: "I'll blast your brains out. I won't see 60: You won't see 28. We'll go together."

The landlady was five months pregnant when she was killed.

Police have confirmed Mr Davies had lost his shotgun licence last autumn, and are investigating an offence of burglary in relation to the shotgun found at the scene.

They are continuing to investigate the probability that Mr Davies shot Miss Evans before killing himself.

They have said they are satisfied that no other person was involved in the incident.
