Farmer William Davies had admitted threatening Ms Evans |
Police have launched a major investigation after two people were shot dead in a village pub in Carmarthenshire last night. The bodies of a 59-year-old farmer and a 27-year-old landlady were found inside the Red Lion pub in Llangadog in the Tawe valley, west Wales, on Thursday night.
Police have not formally identified them but neighbours have said they were landlady Caroline Evans - who was apparently five months pregnant - and local farmer William Davies.
Local people say they were both from the village and knew each other and say Mr Davies was recently convicted for threatening Ms Evans with a shotgun.
A spokesman for the Dyfed-Powys force said: "Police investigations are currently on going into how the deceased came to be in posesion of a shot gun."
Officers said Mr Davies did not have a gun license and that the gun he had at the time of the previous court hearing was not his.
The spokesman also confirmed that detecties were not looking for anyone else in connection with the deaths, although they were keeping an "open mind".
An incident room has been set up at a community centre |
One of the theories that detectives are investigating is the possibility that the deaths could be a murder and suicide.
It was just before 1800 GMT on Thursday that a "number of shots were heard" in the premises.
Police arrived at the scene soon after and the pub was sealed off and the roads into the village remain closed.
Officers are carrying out forensic examinations at the scene.

Chief Inspector Alun Harris said: "Several members of the public reported hearing the sound of a firearm being shot.
A police incident room was set up on the premises of a concrete works at the entrance to the village.
One villager said: "Both of the people involved in this are well known in the community and I cannot see the village ever getting over this.
"But this is the worst thing that could have happened in Llangadog."
