Inquiry into alleged hunt assault

A motorist was injured in an incident at the Sennybridge Hunt
Police are continuing to investigate an alleged assault on a motorist at a hunt in mid Wales.

Four members and supporters of the Sennybridge Hunt were arrested after a man allegedly suffered facial injuries.

The hunt was setting off from Defynnog, in Powys, on Saturday, when an incident broke out between a car driver and people involved in the hunt on the main road of the village.

Eyewitnesses said that a horse broke free and galloped through the village during scuffles.

Dyfed-Powys Police were called and they arrested four people on suspicion of assaulting the car driver - a 24-year-old man from Tonypandy, Rhondda.

Injuries

The four people arrested have been questioned and released on bail without charge.

Police are making further inquiries and are also trying to trace a video taken by visitors to the area at the time of the incident.

The incident comes amid a fierce debate on the future of hunting in Wales.

Legislation banning hunting with hounds, which effectively ends mounted fox hunts in Scotland, came into effect last year.

In England and Wales, a government bill proposes outlawing hare coursing and stag hunting but allowing hunting foxes with dogs under special licences.

The recent Boxing Day hunts throughout Wales - possibly the last of their kind - attracted thousands of supporters.
