Muslim community leads war demo
Demonstrators at an earlier march in Cardiff
Several marches against a war with Iraq have been held
Members of the Muslim community in Cardiff took part in a peace march against a possible war with Iraq on Friday.

About 200 people attended the demonstration which was organised by the Wales Islamic Centre.

Welsh Assembly First Minister Rhodri Morgan
Rhodri Morgan was presented with a protest letter

They were joined by people representing the South Wales Coalition to Stop the War and CND Cymru.

A letter opposing any attack on the Iraqi people was handed to politicians outside the Welsh Assembly following a speech by one of the leaders of the Islamic group Sheik Saood Hassan.

The march was one of several anti-war demonstrations which have taken place in the city over recent weeks.

One of the members of the Wales Islamic Centre said: "It is a march against any war on the civilian people in Iraq.

'Confusion'

"There is strong feeling among our community against any attack and we want to be heard.

"People from the Stop the War Coalition and CND are going to join us and people from outside the area are also expected.

"We don't know what the war is about and we want some clarification about it - we are all very confused about it," he added.

The march started at 1315 GMT outside the Islamic Centre in Alice Street and proceeded through Bute Street and to the Welsh Assembly building where Sheik Hassan gave a speech.

The letter was handed into First Minister Rhodri Morgan and other politicians who met the demonstrators.
