| Friday, 17 January, 2003, 11:13 GMT Women guilty of OAP's fright death ![]() Sarah Campbell and Kim Woolley were found guilty Two women have been found guilty of manslaughter following the death of a north Wales pensioner who they harassed in a street. Mold Crown Court heard how 72-year-old Amrit Bhandari, from Sealand, Deeside, was so frightened by the women he suffered a heart attack and died.
Kim Woolley, 31, from Fazakerley in Liverpool was jailed for four and a half years, and Sarah Campbell, 18, from Malpas in Cheshire sentenced to two and a half years youth custody for the manslaughter. Both had denied the manslaughter of Mr Bhandari who had a heart condition. Sentencing, Judge John Rogers QC said Mr Bhandari had been "frightened to death" by the women. "In the centre of Chester, you aggressively begged money for drugs from a vulnerable 72-year-old man.
"When he refused to hand over his money you, Woolley, alleged that he had raped you. "He was so frightened that he suffered a heart attack and died," he said. The judge added that Mr Bhandari had been a valued member of the community. "He and his wife were enjoying a well-earned retirement and you preyed upon him and caused his death," he said. Deterrent "I bear in mind that you did not physically attack him and that your intention was not to cause him serious harm. "However, I have a duty to impose a sentence which reflects the gravity of what you did, and also to provide a deterrent to other young people who beg from the vulnerable," he added. Woolley was convicted of attempting to use Mr Bhandari's credit card and admitted eight similar charges. Campbell admitted stealing his wallet and both admitted using stolen credit cards. She received a concurrent two year sentence for stealing Mr Bhandari's wallet, Campbell was also given an additional six months consecutive sentence for spending money on another man's credit cards on the same night. It means that she will serve three years in all. | Top Wales stories now: Links to more Wales stories are at the foot of the page. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
