| Saturday, 28 December, 2002, 12:04 GMT Missing couple's family appeal for help ![]() The O'Malleys have not been seen for three months The family of a couple from north Wales who disappeared in Spain three months ago are to ask the Foreign Office for help in tracing the pair. Linda O'Malley, 55, and her 42-year-old husband Anthony have not been seen since September after travelling to Spain where they were looking to buy a holiday home.
Despite a major inquiry by Spanish and North Wales Police, no trace of the couple has been found. Bernard O'Malley, the missing man's brother, told BBC Radio Wales: "It's been three months now and we have tried just about everything we can. "The latest thing we have done is that we've been in contact with our local MPs and we've asked them to bring some pressure to bear on the Spanish police through the Foreign Office. "We're still in the same situation as we were in September, with nothing new to go on. "We are in regular contact with North Wales Police, but they are relying on the Spanish Police and we don't think there is much news coming back, because there's been no new news," he said.
The Llangollen couple who come originally from Cheshire and Merseyside, flew from Manchester to Malaga on 30 August but they failed to appear for their return flight on September 13. They have not been seen since and they have not contacted their families. The pair had apparently been hoping to buy a home in Spain but on 23 September they failed to appear at the auction for the Villajoyosa holiday home they had been interested in. The couple had planned a new life on the Spanish Costa, an area popular with British expatriates. Police discovered that the couple's joint account card was used for several days after they went missing and was eventually stopped by their bank.
It was used at various locations including hypermarkets and cash points and around 20,000 was spent. Despite several sightings of their hire car and people thought to be the couple, no trace of them has been found. Mr O'Malley said that the family's hopes had been raised in November when a body was found in a village that he knew the couple had been visiting. It was found on the A7 road in the Villajoyosa region of Benidorm during a grass cutting operation. But tests showed that the remains did not belong to either of them. Mr O'Malley added that Christmas had been a particularly hard time for the family. "All over the Christmas holiday, Anthony and Linda have been in our thoughts. "It's been a quiet Christmas. "My mother passed away at the beginning of December and normally we would have had her over for Christmas dinner," he added. | See also: 16 Dec 02 | Wales 21 Nov 02 | Wales 25 Oct 02 | Wales 02 Oct 02 | Wales 26 Sep 02 | Wales 28 Sep 02 | Wales 27 Sep 02 | Wales Internet links: The BBC is not responsible for the content of external internet sites Top Wales stories now: Links to more Wales stories are at the foot of the page. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
