Zeta Jones aims for chart stardom
Catherine Zeta Jones and Michael Douglas
Catherine Zeta Jones missed the Chicago premiere
Actress Catherine Zeta Jones could be transformed into a pop diva with the possible release of a single from the musical film Chicago.

According to BBC's Liquid News, the Swansea-born star, turned Hollywood legend, has recorded a single with co-star Renee Zellweger, of Bridget Jones fame.

Their collaboration on the Chicago number I Move On could hit the charts to rival the current crop of TV talent show singers vying for the top spot.

Zeta Jones, who is expecting her second child with husband Michael Douglas, has stunned audiences in the US and won critical acclaim for her role in Chicago.

If the single is released in the UK, it would be the third attempt at chart show fame for Zeta Jones.

In 1992, she released For All Time but it only reached number 36 in the charts.

A second offering in 1994 saw True Love Ways, a duet with David Essex, released but it failed to chart higher than number 38.

Zeta Jones' last attempt was in 1995 when In The Arms of Love was destined for chart-topping success but it failed to go higher than 72.

According to Zellweger, her co-star Zeta Jones's performance in Chicago is amazing.

"It's not just singing and dancing, she belts it out," said Zellweger.

"Well, I walk in on my first day and she's in a lift singing All That Jazz and I was just dumbfounded," she added.

"My jaw dropped to the floor. I didn't speak for 30 minutes. Just sat in the corner in awe and watched.

"I'm like a little field mouse compared to her. Squeak, squeak, squeak," she said.

Zeta Jones plays nightclub performer Velma Kelley who ends up on murderers' row when she shoots her adulterous husband.

She hires lawyer Billy Flynn, played by Richard Gere, a slick and sleazy lawyer, who also takes on the case of prisoner Roxie Hart, played by Zellweger.

Zeta Jones did not attend the world premiere in Leicester Square, London recently which saw Richard Gere and Renee Zellweger wowing audiences in the capital.

Zeta Jones got her first break in the West End production of 42nd Street, aged 17.

Chicago, the film, opens in London on Boxing Day and around the UK on 17 January.
