Donkey walk reaches Bethlehem
Walkers at Bethlehem
The walkers finished at the post office
A little donkey has made its way from a Carmarthenshire town to Bethlehem as part of a sponsored walk to raise money to redevelop the local church.

Schoolchildren dressed in nativity costumes were involved in the four-mile trip, which started from St Teilo's Church in Llandeilo.

Brownies, churchgoers and family groups were also among around 60 people taking part.

Anna Bement, from the Body Building fundraising team behind the walk, said the day had been a success.

"It was amazing - we got the dry weather we had hoped for and even got a bit of sunshine."

"The donkey did fine too - it made it the whole way," she added.

Organisers are raising money to redevelop the church and its hall so they can be used to hold more local community events.

"It is a church-based project, but it is building bridges into the community," she said.

"The church itself needs a lot of work, but the hall also needs soundproofing and new facilities including toilets and a lift for disabled peole."

"We want to put in another floor so there are smaller rooms for sunday work and youth work.

"We want to offer a venue for conferences, events, parties and concerts," she added.

On the road to Bethlehem, the walkers stopped for hot drinks and mince pies, before finishing off with hot soup and rolls.

A coach then ferried them back to the church, although the donkey travelled back alone in its own horsebox.
