Ice skaters in the pink
Pink rink
Skating sessions will last for 30 minutes at the event
Ice skaters in south Wales were able to glide across the only pink rink in the UK on Sunday.

The open-air rink was hired for a day to mark the end of a three week event to celebrate Christmas at Cwmcarn Forest Drive, near Risca.

The rink is such a brilliant finale for the season and I am sure that everyone is going to love it when they see it

Stacy Hardwick, Caerphilly Council

A marquee was erected to cover the surface so the skaters will be protected from any bad weather conditions.

Skaters were charged 2.50 for 30 minutes on the ice.

Stacy Hardwick, from Caerphilly Council said: "The rink is unique and should be great fun for anyone who has a go on it.

"We came up with the idea of having an ice rink because skating has become such a popular winter past time.

"When we were told about the pink rink we knew that we had to have it because it will really help with the Christmas cheer.

"We have had so much going on during the last three weeks with a Christmas fair, a fireworks display, and lots of stalls for people to buy presents.

"The rink is such a brilliant finale for the season and I am sure everyone is going to love it when they see it," she added.

Measuring 27 foot long by 27 foot wide, the rink was hired from the Cheshire based company, Ice Magic.

Peter Emmett who runs Ice Magic said: "We supply and make synthetic ice rinks to places all over the world.

"We have a big stock already but we are able to make rinks to order.

"We made the pink rink for a client who was holding a one off party.

"It is the only pink rink in the UK and is quite eye catching," he said.
