The firefighters' strike around Wales
North Wales Fire ServiceMid and West Fire BrigadeSouth Wales Fire ServiceNews image

The second firefighters' strike began at 0900 GMT on Friday and is due to continue for eight days.

BBC Wales News Online gives you a round-up of what is happening in your area.

North Wales

Striking firefighters in north Wales broke their picket line to help tackle a suspicious fire at a school.

Up to six retained members of the Fire Brigades Union in Twywn took action after it was feared children may have been trapped in the blaze at a secondary school in south Gwynedd seaside town.

A military Green Goddess based at Dolwyddelan, nearly 40 miles away, and a breathing apparatus team were also called out.

However, it was quickly established that no children were at the scene.

North Wales Police are investigating the circumstances leading up to the blaze which broke out about 1540 GMT and severely damaged a ground-floor classroom.

Retained firefighters and the military covering the North Wales Brigade area have been deployed to 76 fires, 11 traffic accidents, and six hoax calls since the strike began.

Mid and West Wales

Green Goddesses have been back on the roads of the Mid and West Wales Brigade area.

As well as dealing with fires, crews have been dealing with floods following heavy rain on Wednesday.

Crews were called to four floods in the brigade area.

A total of 83 fires have been dealt with during the current stoppage, along with ten traffic accidents and four flood calls.

The control centre has also received two hoax calls.

South Wales

Military crews have handled 139 fires since the start of the current dispute.

They have also responded to five road accidents, one flood call and 11 hoax calls.
