| Tuesday, 12 November, 2002, 10:39 GMT Arrests follow police drugs raids Two-hundred and fifty officers from several police forces have carried out a series of raids at addresses in Newport, south east Wales to tackle alleged drug trafficking. So far, 23 arrests have been made following the early morning raids on homes in the Pill area of the city. Police have been gathering intelligence into the activities of drug dealers in Pill and the surrounding area of Newport. The officers from the Gwent, Dyfed-Powys, South Wales and Gloucestershire forces simultaneously struck at 15 addresses as part of the operation, codenamed Corolla. The raids were aimed at tackling alleged class A drug trafficking after officers had gathered intelligence over several months into the activities of drug dealers in Pill and other areas of Newport.
