Golfers hit by hole handicap
Golf club and ball
Players have been told to use two holes twice
Golfers at a south Wales course are two holes short of a full round after a land dispute.

The 12th and 14th holes at the Margam Lakeside golf club at Port Talbot have been blocked off by a barbwire fence by the farmer who apparently owns the land.

There is a problem because of a complex lease issue over a field which contains two greens on the western edge of the course

Players now have only 16 holes to play on at the pay and play course.

Course manager Julian Davies said the incident was a "real shame" but that players could still enjoy a full round, albeit with a little bit of repetition.

New owners

"With a little jiggery-pokery, members can still get a round in by playing the sixth and seventh holes a second time," he said.

The club has been leasing land where the two holes are situated for eight years from a neighbouring farm.

But the dispute began when new owners took over the course, and the farmer decided to fence off the two holes.

"There is a problem because of a complex lease issue over a field which contains two greens on the western edge of the course," said Mr Davies.
