The longest bar in Wales is selling more than a hundred types of beer to festival goers in Cardiff.

Beer drinkers in the city are being invited to sample 130 brews in the Great Welsh Beer and Cider Festival in a bid to keep the real ale tradition alive.

The event, held at City Hall, is giving people the chance to drink beers and ciders which are made by small Welsh brewers as well as by the larger international breweries.

The Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA) is holding the festival as way of promoting greater appreciation of traditional beers, ciders and perries as part of national heritage and culture.

James Daley, the regional director for the organisation said the event was one of the major beer festivals to be held.

"We have got the longest bar in Wales at the festival," said Mr Daley.

"We have tried our best to get as many different types of beer and cider as we can.

"We have got supplies from all the Welsh brewers and breweries from elsewhere.

"The amount of different brands we have here rivals bigger events like that the Munich beer festival," he said.

The annual event in Cardiff has attracted a strong following in recent years.

"This year we have made sure we have brought enough beer and cider in because we were drunk dry last year," said Mr Daley.

"We are expecting this year's festival to be a great success," he added.

CAMRA, which has over 50,000 members, has been at the forefront of encouraging new ale brewers to set up since it was established in 1989.

Currently there is a massive real ale revival across the UK with more than 300 new brewers producing beer.
