The College for the Nations concert - organised by Swansea Institute - began as a means of promoting courses for ethnic minorities but has expanded to involve the city's wider community.
Organisers say they want to inform people about the higher education opportunities available to everyone, regardless of their background. Hundreds of people watched the dancers, singers and actors perform in the event at the institute's Townhill campus which started at 1800 BST. The entertainment included an African samba dance, a multicultural gospel choir, native American dance, Chinese ribbon dance and a Welsh school choir. Event organiser Linda Iwobi says she was overwhelmed by the response.
She said: "This highlights the importance of ethnic minorities in our community. "As an educational establishment it give us the opportunity to promote all cultures within our community and the fact that we are all living and working in Wales. "We want to show ethnic minorities that we have courses to suit them in a safe environment. Enjoyment "Our staff can take on board all their cultural requirements and preferences. "It is an opportunity to listen to and enjoy all cultures through education. "The event will bring people from all corners of the globe and show Wales and Swansea Institute provides a learning environment for people from all ethnic origins." The guests included members and leaders of all community groups and organisations represented in Swansea. | See also: 12 Sep 02 | Wales 10 Sep 02 | Politics 22 Aug 02 | Wales 10 Jun 02 | England 09 Aug 02 | Wales Internet links: The BBC is not responsible for the content of external internet sites Top Wales stories now: Links to more Wales stories are at the foot of the page. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
