| Monday, 2 September, 2002, 13:27 GMT 14:27 UK Pc denies sex request text ![]() Christopher Davies has been suspended from his job A north Wales policeman bombarded a teenager with indecent text messages after meeting her while investigating claims she had been assaulted, a court has heard. Wrexham magistrates were told that police constable Christopher Davies, 27, sent about 800 messages in less than a month to the 15-year-old girl's mobile phone.
It is alleged the messages included a request for sex. During the hearing on Monday, Pc Davies, from Northop Hall near Mold, denied six charges of sending grossly offensive or indecent messages. The court heard how the officer had sent the girl messages after investigating an alleged assault on her in January this year. He admitted giving the teenager his personal mobile telephone number.
The Pc, who has been suspended from North Wales Police, also admitted texting her - including late night messages. But he has denied that any of the messages were indecent. Prosecutor, Matthew Dunford asked the court: "What was the officer doing, texting a 15-year-old girl at a quarter to midnight? "Was he sending her innocent messages, as he would have the court believe, or had the relationship reached the stage where he was sending indecent messages. "This defendant abused his position of trust and authority by sending these messages to a vulnerable young person when he should have known better." 'Something daft' The girl, who cannot be named for legal reasons, sent the defendant 862 messages during January and February. Pc Davies admitted responding to the majority of them. He was arrested after confessing to a sergeant that he had "done something daft". During a police interview he told Inspectors that it was normal for him to hand over his number. He claimed he told the girl to think of him as an older brother and that none of his comments were indecent or offensive. The case continues. | See also: 08 Jul 02 | Science/Nature 25 Mar 02 | dot life 05 Feb 02 | Politics Top Wales stories now: Links to more Wales stories are at the foot of the page. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
