| Wednesday, 19 June, 2002, 08:08 GMT 09:08 UK Substance abuse advice for youth groups The Wildmill estate has the highest level of drugs-related crime in the area Help for youth workers and teachers trying to tackle the problem of substance abuse in Wales is being launched in Bridgend, south Wales. Welsh Assembly Education Minister Jane Davidson has said she hopes the advice in the new leaflet, called Substance Misuse: Children and Young People, will help young people fight drug misuse.
Aimed at teachers and youth organisations, the advice presents guidance on how to approach the issue. It hopes to ensure that information provided about substance misuse is clear and consistent. Guidance about dealing with incidents and developing a substance misuse policy is also included. Ms Davidson is launching the leaflet a a newly-converted community centre at Bridgend's Wildmill Estate Youth Works project. The Wildmill Estate has the highest level of drug-related crime in the Bridgend area.
The new centre is being run as a partnership between the local authority, the Groundwork Trust, Youth Works and funding from various private donations. A breakfast club, a cyber caf�, and a parent and toddler club for local residents are all included at the centre. Youth Works programme manager Reg Denley has said the reaction to the project has been positive. "It's an amazing start - all the young people in the estate have come and helped work it out," said Mr Denley.
