Wrexham County Borough Council - which scooped the accolade last year - are hoping for a repeat performance when the winner is unveiled on 22 May.
The site has been picked out by the Society of Information Technology Managers (SOCITM) who have surveyed council websites across the UK. The society praised the construction of the site sayign it was innovative and easy to use. Some of the outstanding features highlighted were the bilingual nature of the information and the accessibility of the site to all - including those with visual impairments. The council believes recent additions to the site have contributed to their success. They include a facility which allows people who have moved to notify the council of their new address.
The local authority has teamed up with ihavemoved.com - which informs utility services and other companies of the change of address via the internet. Wrexham council says it receives a wide variety of visitors to the site from across the world. Officials claim page impressions have doubled in the last 12 months, to over 20,000 per month. Dave Hylands, Chief Information Systems Officer said: "This is excellent news. We have given e-government a high priority over the last 12 months and to be nominated for the award again is a fitting tribute to the hard work and commitment of our dedicated website team. "The site is designed to be used by residents, businesses and visitors to Wrexham and is proving a success with everyone." | See also: Internet links: The BBC is not responsible for the content of external internet sites Top Wales stories now: Links to more Wales stories are at the foot of the page. | |||||||||||||||||||||||
