Catherine Zeta Jones accepts a gift for her son Dylan
Catherine Zeta Jones has been given a Welsh mountain pony as a present for her 20-month old son Dylan.

The seven-year-old pony - named Highland Jinks - was presented to the Hollywood star during her visit to Wales to take part in Ian Botham's charity walk in aid of a children's hospital.

Presents of ponies from the Welsh Pony and Cob Society are normally reserved for members of the Royal Family, but an exception was made for the Swansea-born actress.

A home for Jinks will be found at a ranch in Bermuda owned by Zeta Jones and husband Michael Douglas.

The sandy-coloured pony was presented as the actress visited Cardiff on Saturday to join the final stage of Ian Botham's 229-mile walk for the Noah's Ark Appeal, along with teenage singer Charlotte Church.

The pony will help Zeta Jones ensure that her son stays in touch with his Welsh roots.

Dylan regularly visits his grandparents in Swansea, and now has a Welsh nanny looking after him at the family home in Los Angeles.

The pony will be stabled near Swansea temporarily

Welsh Pony and Cob Society spokeswoman Evelyn Jones, who presented the animal to the actress, said: "She was overwhelmed and very touched.

"She couldn't wait for the pony to come over to Bermuda so she could see Dylan's face.

"She joked about keeping it for herself for a while because Dylan is only 20 months old."

Evelyn Jones added that Jinks would remain in Wales before being taken to the family ranch.

"For the time being, she's built a stable for it in Wales and her mother is going to look after it," she said.

Miss Jones was also presented with a hand-made saddle and bridle for Jinks.
