Father-of-two Jason Weaver, 36, was run over by his own van when he challenged the pair after flagging down a passing motorist and chasing the robbers through the streets of Caerphilly, south Wales.
His injuries include two punctured lungs, broken ribs, a broken lower back, pelvis, hip and thigh wounds and head injuries. Mr Weaver, from Pontypridd, a former finalist in the company's driver-of-the-year contest, is said to be in a serious but stable condition in the University of Wales Hospital, Cardiff. He was dropping off a package at Caerphilly shopping centre around 1620 BST on Wednesday when his van was taken by two men. Vehicle dumped Gwent Police said he then flagged down a passing motorist and the duo caught up with the stolen van and found it parked in a lane. When he approached the thieves, they drove the van at him and ran him over. The pair then made off in the van a second time and dumped the vehicle before making off on foot. Gwent Police Detective Chief Inspector Brian Wilson said: "I would like to take this opportunity to express that the actions of the delivery driver were extremely courageous. "His attempt to reclaim his van was very brave. "It saddens me that in doing so he put his own life at risk, and is now fighting for his life at hospital."
