Woman wins 40,000 on first bet
A woman from west Wales has achieved the dream of everyone who has ever had a flutter on the horses - scooping thousands for a bet of just a few pounds.

The unnamed woman - described only as a mother in her late 20s - collected almost 40,000 after placing a 2 wager in a betting shop in Carmarthen.

The accumulative odds of 39,303-to-1 for her miraculous bet is almost certainly a world record for a treble

Coral spokesman Simon Clare

The win, on three horses racing at Doncaster on Saturday, all which won at odds of 33-1, has been described as "miraculous" by bookmakers Coral.

And to add to the envy of punters everywhere still looking for their own version of that racecourse formula, it has emerged she landed her winnings with her first-ever bet.

Coral, which has to meet the payout, believes it is a world record for a 'treble' bet.

The record wager began when the woman punter placed a 1 each-way treble bet, costing 2, in Coral's Bond Street offices in the west Wales town.

The customer went back to collect her winnings which she thought would be around 600.

Racing at Doncaster
The bet was on three horse races at Doncaster

Staff said she nearly fainted when she was told the scale of her success.

It seems the reasoning behind her selections were as personal as the win is record-making.

She selected the first horse, Intellibet One, because her Grandmother's name is Bet.

She chose her second horse, Zucchero, because she is a big fan of the Film "Grease" and particularly Danny Zuko - the lead character played by John Travolta.

Her final selection used the traditional pin-sticking method and landed her with Lady of Gdansk, a name she liked.

Coral spokesman Simon Clare, said: "The accumulative odds of 39,303-to-1 for her miraculous bet is almost certainly a world record for a treble."

The woman has said he intends to put the money towards a house.
