| Wednesday, 27 March, 2002, 13:11 GMT Three charged over fatal crash ![]() The stolen car crashed on Friday night Three men have appeared in court charged in connection with the crash of a stolen car near Swansea in which a teenage girl died. At Swansea Magistrates Court on Wednesday, Jason Maynard, 21, of no fixed abode, was acccused of causing the death 15-year-old Sharlene Banfield by dangerous driving.
Thomas Howlett, 19, of Gendros, and 20-year-old Terrence Thomas from Clase, face charges of allowing themselves to be carried in the car. Ms Banfield, who was 15, died in Morriston Hospital two days after being thrown from the car when it crashed into a roundabout between Penllergaer and Gorseinon in the early hours of Friday. Her friend Amy Williams, 13, from Loughor, remains in a critical condition after being transferred to Cardiff's University of Wales Hospital. The vehicle they had been travelling in - a Ford Orion - had allegedly been stolen from the Loughor area in the early hours of Friday. Mr Maynard and Mr Howlett were both remanded in custody until a hearing at Swansea Crown Court on 5 April. Mr Thomas was granted conditional bail. |
