| Sunday, 24 March, 2002, 18:19 GMT Blackpool win keeps stadium 'jinx' going ![]() Blackpool's 4-1 win kept the remarkable run going A changing room "jinx" at Cardiff's Millennium Stadium is still in place after hot favourites Blackpool defeated Cambridge in the LDV Vans Trophy final, despite a feng shui blessing earlier in the week. Cambridge United became the ninth team to lose a major football final at the venue after being handed the southern changing room at the stadium.
The southern room is always handed to the team which is further south geographically - but the northern side has always triumphed. Earlier in the week, a feng shui expert was called in to try to balance any bad spirits from the 'unlucky' room. Paul Darby, from Nottingham, carried out a traditional blessing according to the Chinese art on Tuesday. He blamed the media for the bad vibes because of the nearby press room. "All the cables and lights in the interview room are affecting the energy of the dressing room," said 52-year-old Mr Darby. He said the long term answer was to paint the walls with a bright colour to act as a protection. His immediate solution was to give the room a feng shui blessing - ringing a bell, carrying incense sticks and throwing sea salt - "just to zing up the energy". False predictions But Mr Darby's work was not enough for Cambridge, who were well beaten as a rampant Blackpool secured their first domestic trophy since 1953. Both sides play in the Second Division, but Cambridge are struggling, and face almost certain relegation this season.
But Chris Clarke, John Hills and Scott Taylor wrapped up the win for the side in the second half. The result was in stark contrast to a premonition from feng shui expert Mr Darby, who had predicted a 2-1 Cambridge win. He had also claimed to have envisaged a 'weird' goal and a Blackpool player being sent off. However, both the stadium and the Football League have stressed they do not believe there is a voodoo hovering over the ground. | See also: Internet links: The BBC is not responsible for the content of external internet sites Top Wales stories now: Links to more Wales stories are at the foot of the page. | ||||||||||||||||||||||
