Aussie-bound uncle misses Kylie tour
Kylie Minogue at The Brits
Minogue's Fever has been a big seller in the UK
Pop superstar Kylie Minogue has sold out 20,000 tickets to launch her UK tour in Cardiff - but her favourite Welsh relative will miss it because he's in Australia.

Her uncle Dennis Riddiford booked a holiday to visit Kylie's grandmother before the singer announced the dates of her sell-out British tour.

As Kylie goes on stage at the Cardiff International Arena, Mr Riddiford will be more than 10,000 miles away with her family.

The 74-year-old from Maesteg, south Wales, said: "It's really bad timing - I'm off to Australia to see Kylie's nan, and Kylie is in Wales.

"I'd love to be at the concert in Cardiff singing along with all her other fans.

"Kylie said we could have as many tickets as we want, and of course, we'd get to have a chat with her afterwards.

"But I'd already booked my holiday when I knew about the concert, so it was too late to change."

The Australian star is performing four gigs in the Welsh capital from 26 April at the start of her "On a Night Like This" UK tour.

The 20,000 tickets for the dates at the Cardiff International Arena have already sold out.

Mr Riddiford's sister Millie, 80, emigrated from Wales to Townsville, Queensland, in 1955.

Her daughter Carol married Ron Minogue and gave birth to her famous singing daughters - Kylie, 33 and Dannii, 30.

Kylie's uncle, who is spending two months visiting his Australian relatives and friends, wished Kylie good luck for the Welsh part of her tour.

He said: "She's flying high at the moment and nothing can stop her.

"I'm sure the family in Australia will be delighted for her."
