New police HQ on cards
North Wales Police HQ
Police want another base in St Asaph
Denbighshire councillors are expected to approve plans to build a new divisional headquarters for North Wales Police at St Asaph.

The headquarters would be built on the town's business park and cover Denbighshire and Conwy.

There are also plans for a force wide major incident and scientific support facility.

No details have been released on how much the project would cost or when it is proposed building work might begin.

The force stresses it is committed to Rhyl police station, the current central division headquarters.

It wants to replace the existing facility with a new purpose-built station.

However, if the scheme goes ahead the force will have to consider a strategy for great-crested newts.

Newt habitat

Recent studies in the locality have shown the presence of the reptiles in the ponds on the business park and on adjoining land.

The Welsh Development Agency (WDA) has produced a survey to examine the issue.

They want "the creation of a separate habitat adjacent to the business park with 12 additional ponds and an enhancement of the existing newt habitat."

Denbighshire Councillors are being recommended to approve the scheme, subject to conditions.

There have been no ojections lodged against the plans, which if approved, would see work begin within the next five years.
