| Tuesday, 26 February, 2002, 13:07 GMT Region buffeted by high winds ![]() Areas of the River Dee are on flood warning Gale force winds, gusting up to 60 miles an hour have battered areas of north east Wales. In Wrexham, a family business has been left devastated after the roof was blown off their factory in the early hours of Wednesday morning.
Partner Peris Jones said his staff were all in shock. "The wind's blown the roof into the gardens next to the mill and it's demolished a garden shed and ripped tiles off people's roofs."
He added: "We're waiting for the builders to give us an estimate but there's about 10,000 worth of equipment damaged without the roof. "You can't blame anyone but it's devastating and a bit of a shock." Elsewhere, firefighters have rescued a horse after it became trapped in a stable after the roof collapsed in Llandrillo near Corwen. The stallion escaped with a cut nose. Flood warnings The A525 between Trefnant and Denbigh was closed both ways due to a fallen tree. And in Coedpoeth near Wrexham, a chimney collapsed off a house. Several rivers remain on flood warning particularly in Denbighshire. The council's emergency planning coordinator Malcolm Boscott said: "There are a number of flood warnings, including the upper river Dee in the Corwen area and the lower river Dee from Llangollen. "The river Clwyd in Ruthin is on flood watch as is the Vale of Clwyd." The BBC Weather Centre says the early rain and gales are expected to clear from eastern areas with most of the country seeing sunny intervals and blustery showers later in the day. | See also: Internet links: The BBC is not responsible for the content of external internet sites Top Wales stories now: Links to more Wales stories are at the foot of the page. | |||||||||||||||||||||||
