It covers the A - Z of science from archaeology to zoology and has attracted a host of celebrities including David Bellamy, Ken Dodd, Uri Gellar and Bill Odie.

Comedian Ken Dodd will be taking part in a unique scientific experiment on the psychology of humour.

He will be trying to find out what makes us laugh and why some of us laugh at different things.

Ken Dodd has also created a "giggle map" of Britain to show what makes people from different areas smile.

The festival has also been given the support of Welsh politicians.

Welsh Assembly First Minister Rhodri Morgan said: "I am a keen supporter of the Wrexham Science Festival, which promotes the benefits and attractions of science and technology.

"The programme for this year's science festival clearly demonstrates that this work is well worthwhile."

The scheme was set up in 1998 and is organised by Wrexham County Borough Council, Yale college, North East Wales Institute (newi), the Welsh Development Agency and Education and Learning Wales.

Peter Scott, Manager of Wrexham Council's Development and Enterprise centre said they had done well to attract so many people.

"We are fortunate to have attracted such high profile patrons to Wrexham Science Festival.

"They fully support our aims and act as our ambassadors," he said.

Organisers have arranged approximately 200 different events for people wanting to take part.
