Police have accused an 11-year-old boy of arson after two teenagers died when a council storage shed they were in was set alight in Colwyn Bay.

An 11-year-old boy was arrested on suspicion of arson shortly after the incident in October and released on bail.

On Monday, North Wales Police confirmed a youth - who cannot be named for legal reasons - is due to appear before Llandudno Youth Court on Thursday.

The victim of the blaze had been courting for a couple of months and had sought refuge inside the council-owned storage shed in Eirias Park, during October half-term.

As they sat inside a fire broke out and they were overcome by toxic fumes.

A statement from Kirsty's family described the schoolgirl as a "loving child" who was "very, very talented and cared about the community she lived in".

As well as being top of her class, she had played the piano from the age of five and was excellent at art and spoke English, Welsh, French and German.

Daniel's relatives said he was "a very mature young man and a very sensitive person".

He has a small group of close friends and had formed a relationship with Kirsty about seven or eight weeks ago.

"He was a much loved person - very much within the family and very much liked in the community. He had a very wicked sense of humour."

The 900 pupils at the teenagers' school held a memorial service and were offered counselling following the tragedy.

A two-minute silence was observed by students and teachers, and the school's flag was flown at half-mast.

Hundreds of mourners later attended separate funerals which were held in the town for Kirsty and Daniel.
