| Sunday, 4 November, 2001, 14:52 GMT 'Arson' attack on police station ![]() A North Wales Police unmanned station is "attacked" Police in north Wales are investigating an arson attack on one of their own stations. The station at Mostyn in Flintshire was set ablaze after a car was driven at the garage on the side of the building. The probe will centre on whether the vehicle burst into flames on impact or was set on fire following the collision.
A station building was threatened in the subsequent blaze but firefighters were able to contain the fire to the garage, which was gutted. The incident is being treated as arson after two men were reported to have been seen running away from the scene. Forensic scientists and scenes of crimes officers were called in to gather evidence about the nature of the event. The drama, which led to adjoining premises being evacuated, happened around 0200GMT on Sunday morning when the part-time police station was not manned. Detective Inspector John Rowlands of North Wales Police's Eastern CID said: "The vehicle has gone on fire, that has set the garage on fire, and for a short while it looked as if it was going to be a very, very serious fire." Youth held He said: "The car ended up with its nose at an angle against the police station garage." Mr Rowlands said officers were looking for witnesses who may have seen the incident or who had any knowledge. Officers are tracing the owner of the vehicle, believed to be a Seat, which was extensively damaged in the blaze.
