He argues that hiding cameras behind trees and the back of vans is not fair on motorists, particularly when they are driving on dual carriageways and motorways.

He says he is all for saving lives but does not think that the way the law enforcers are going about it is right.

He said: "I have no objections to speed traps, as long as they do not hide them."

"If people can see them, then they will slow down and it will curb speeding," he said.

"If you look at other countries, they are painted luminous."

His site includes extra tips such as "unmarked police cars" and "police hot spots and hidey holes" and visitors can leave a message about the location of speed traps in their area.

He is planning to photograph more of the speed traps in Wales this weekend.

Mr Lockett would like to make computing a career and hopes his dot.com innovation will boost his chances of being offered a job in the industry.

"I just cannot believe how successful it has been in such a short time," he said.

"It is all donated information and the support I have been getting from emails is brilliant," he said.

South Wales Police is among eight forces in Wales and England taking part in a two-year pilot scheme allowing them to use money from speeding fines to buy additional cameras.

In its first year, it has helped boost the number of speeding tickets issued in the UK from 40,000 to just over 100,000.

The government sees speed cameras as an important measure in its strategy to cut road deaths by 40pc by 2010 but has given way to calls for the devices to be made more visible.
