The Swansea-born Hollywood star beat off competition from fellow female stars, Jennifer Aniston and Julia Roberts, to take the top spot again in the beauty awards by best magazine. She and husband Michael Douglas also came runners-up in the Best Looking Couple award - though they took the same position in the Most Mismatched Couple category.
They were beaten into poll position by Billie Piper and Chris Evans. More than 1,600 magazine readers voted in eight categories for their favourite and most-hated celebrities, with the nominees judged on their style, looks and relationships. The 31-year-old Welsh actress took the top title with almost three times as many votes as her nearest rival, Friends star, Jennifer Aniston. She garnered 62% of the votes cast compared to Aniston's 23%. Julia Roberts was in third place with 13%. One-in-five magazine readers also liked Catherine's smile, with 31% voting for her in the Best Star Smile category. This was won by Julia Roberts who co-stars with the Welsh beauty in American Sweetheart. And 27% of readers thought Catherine has the best hair colour, putting her in second place behind Big Brother host Davina McCall on 46%.
Best Looking Celebrity runner-up Jennifer Aniston can console herself with the knowledge that she and husband Brad Pitt won the Best Looking Couple category, pushing Catherine Zeta Jones and Michael Douglas into second place. But Catherine and her American husband pulled off an unlikely feat considering it was a survey of UK readers: they beat into third place the celebrity couple most in the limelight in this country, Victoria and David Beckham, better known as Posh and Becks. However, one-in-five of the people (22%) who took part in the poll also thought the transatlantic couple were the most mismatched, although the top award in this category went to media millionaire Chris Evans and his teenage bride, pop singer, Billie Piper. Other winners and losers in the survey include Geri Halliwell who clinched the Best Image Change category with a whopping 85% and her runner up, Martine McCutcheon. Chris Evans scooped the lion's share of the thumbs-down votes for the Worst Looking Celebrity with 71% of readers voting for him. He beat Bjork (14%) and Bob Geldof (9%). Louise Court, editor of best, said: "It's great to see British glamour strongly represented in these awards with Catherine, Martine and Davina all doing so well. "Best readers admire celebrities who normal women can relate to." | See also: Top Wales stories now: Links to more Wales stories are at the foot of the page. | ||||||||||||||||||||||
