| Friday, 10 August, 2001, 10:34 GMT 11:34 UK Bollywood in love on a Welsh beach ![]() Sameera Eddy and Sohail Khan in a love scene at Mwnt An ancient mid Wales castle is being used as the backdrop to the latest creation of the multi million pound Bollywood film industry. A film company has flown into Aberystwyth from Egypt to continue filming musical love scenes for the latest Indian movie, Mein Dil Tujhko Diya - I Gave You my Heart. Bollywood has the largest film industry in the world and produces well over 700 films a year - outstripping Hollywood production.
Commission officials recently visited India's move capital Mumbai (Bombay) in an attempt to woo film-makers. "The mission gave us an insight into how Bollywood films are made and how we in Britain can accommodate the different working practices," said commission chief Mike Wallwork. "We hope that this will be the first of many Bollywood films to come to mid Wales." Film producer Bunta Walia said: "I came here and I met with the Mid Wales Film Production company and they showed me the beautiful location and I was very impressed." The 30-strong company has taken over the Marine Hotel in Aberystwyth.
First time actors Sameera Eddy and Sohail Khan - brother of Indian mega-star Salman Khan star in the movie. They have been filming scenes at Aberystwyth Castle, along a National Trust owned stretch of coastline at Mwnt near Cardigan as well as the Elan Valley. The UK has now become a popular 'exotic' location for the Bollywood producers seeking ever new backgrounds for filming. Last summer a company from India used the Marquess of Anglesey's estate Plas Newydd on Anglesey as a setting for a production. And earlier this month a multi million dollar Bollywood epic, which was filmed in Scotland, had its world premiere in Govan. |
