World's best snipers converge on Wales
British Army soldier, Sierra Leone
The British Army will face competition from top marksmen
The world's best army snipers will be competing this weekend at a symposium being run in mid Wales by the British Army.

Competitors will be tested on a range of key skills required on the modern battlefield.

The soldiers taking part during the weekend at Sennybridge Army Ranges near Brecon, will be assessed on their ability in areas such as camouflage and concealment, observation and marksmanship.

Teams from the British Army and Royal Marines will take on competitors from America, Austria, Germany, Hungary, Sri Lanka, Singapore and South Africa.

'Strong hopes'

Major Mark Richards, Officer Commanding Sniper Training, said: "The symposium is not just about sniping skills.

"It is also a fantastic opportunity for the competitors to exchange ideas and to learn from one another."

He added: "Although the competition is very tough we have strong hopes of a British victory."

The symposium will run at Sennybridge until Tuesday.
