Speaking on the BBC Radio 4's On The Ropes programme, Mr Kilshaw, 46, from Buckley, Flintshire, said: "In a way this has made me even more determined to do it a second time."

His wife Judith, 47 - who has two grown-up daughters from a previous relationship and was once described as the "most hated woman in Britain" - said she "still maintained" she had two baby girls.

"The heart says I have but the law says I haven't," she told presenter John Humphrys.

Mr Kilshaw said his desire for a daughter stemmed from the fact that he was an only child who always wanted a sister of a similar age.

He said he thought "it would be nice" for their young sons Rupert and James to grow up with a sister.

The couple, who held court in a hotel at the height of the adoption saga, said there were now plans to write a book about their experience.

"We are meeting someone tomorrow," said Mrs Kilshaw. "The reason for this is not to make money. It's to put the record straight. The press have virtually destroyed me and my family."

Mrs Kilshaw, who was accused of being "a witch" by one Sunday newspaper, said she wanted revenge on those she claimed had ruined her life.

"Now it's payback time. Now I will get my own back on each and every one of them. I'm sorry but they are going to have to pay for what they have done to my family," she said.

Twins Belinda and Kimberley were taken into the care of Flintshire Social Services in January this year.

The Kilshaws lost a High Court battle to keep the girls, who are now one-year-old, and they were returned to the United States in April.
