| Monday, 2 July, 2001, 09:59 GMT 10:59 UK Warring Kilshaws in court rows ![]() Reports have cast doubt over the state of the marriage Internet adoption mother Judith Kilshaw has accused husband Alan of betraying her over money spent on their US baby jaunt. Mrs Kilshaw has vowed not to pay for travellers' cheques worth over 2,500 after a court ruled Mr Kilshaw was not responsible for them.
He did not appear in court but sent a letter and was fined 200 and ordered to pay 50 costs amid increasing speculation about the state of the Kilshaws' marriage. Judith Kilshaw was arrested earlier this year on suspicion of stealing the cheques from Derek Shephard Travel Agency in Wrexham, though no charges were brought. Last week, a judge at a small claims court in Mold rejected Alan Kilshaw's claim she took the cheques in a bid to harass him. Ordered to pay But the judge ruled Mr Kilshaw was not responsible for the cheques, which were cashed during the couple's trip to buy the American twins, and ruled they be paid for by his wife. The couple had two attempts to make the purchase by credit card rejected and staff agreed they could pay on another occasion. Mrs Kilshaw returned but took the cheques, worth 2,637, without paying.
Mrs Kilshaw reportedly said she did not care what the judge had done, claiming she was given the travellers' cheques by the travel agent employee and did not steal them. "I have been accused of being a thief, but they were given to me," she said. "I didn't snatch them, I didn't run off with them. I don't like being accused of theft. "Do you think I bother about the law after what I have been through? The law doesn't exist as far as I am concerned." She hit out at media coverage of the issue and said she was making a television documentary about press harassment. "What do you want me to do? What would you like me to do next so that you can sell the story for blood money?" |
