Couple marry on London Marathon
Nigel Jones and Angela Stratford, London Marathon
The happy couple found the longest aisle in town
A couple from south Wales became only the second London Marathon entrants to tie the knot on the run.

Nigel Jones and Angela Stratford, from Cwmbran, south east Wales - who met while out running - were married a mile from the finishing line of the 26-mile event.

They ran together hand in hand for 14 miles before stopping at a registry office at Charlton House, near Greenwich, for the short service, cheered by family and friends.

The bride described her big day as "absolutely amazing".

London Marathon facts
More than 30,000 runners
Oldest woman competitor: Jenny Wood Allen, 89, of Dundee
Oldest man: Abraham Weintraub, 91, of the USA
Youngest competitor: James Bream, 18, of Stafford
Married en route: Angela Stratford and Nigel Jones, from south Wales
The 34-year-old wore a cream wedding dress for her big day, while groom Nigel combined his running shorts and shoes with smart morning dress.

They began the race, then met up with family and friends at Tower Bridge, where they were married by a friend of theirs, Bishop Jonathan Blake.

He has previously married couples underwater and over the internet.

Proposal

They made their wedding vows on the run to raise money for the Welsh cancer charity Tenovus.

Angela said it was the "perfect way" to get married.

Eight years ago, Angela earned the nickname "the angel at the bridge", after she spent four hours persuading a man not to jump off the Clifton suspension bridge.

The couple have a history of marking family events in unusual ways.

Nigel proposed to Angela on TV's Trisha's Show, and their first child Ellie was christened on Snowdon by the same Bishop in what is believed to have been the highest altitude christening in Wales.

Nigel and Angela are not the first to get married during the annual event.

Croydon couple Mick Gambrill, 46, and Barbara Cole, 43, pipped them to the post in 1999.
