| Tuesday, 20 February, 2001, 10:44 GMT Designer's net catwalk show ![]() Julien Macdonald with fashion model Naomi Campbell International designer Julien MacDonald has broadcast the world's first internet catwalk show at London Fashion Week.
The Merthyr-born designer - who is famous for dressing some of the world's most glamorous women - unveiled his new autumn and winter collections. Macdonald screened his show from the London Fashion Week on www.iceshowbiz.com at 1815 BST on Monday. The designer - whose client list includes pop stars Mel B and Kylie Minogue, model Kate Moss, actress Joely Richardson and Spice Girl Victoria Beckham - claimed he was "the first of Britain's hottest designers to embrace new media into the fashion world in this way."
Macdonald said that he sets out to sell "sex on legs" and the skimpy dress he designed for dressing Kelly Brook for the Snatch film premiere last year seemed to testify to that. The dress, which was cut so high it showed her underwear, won the actress a prize for both best and worst outfit of 2000 in a poll of Heat magazine readers. But Macdonald's designers are not restricted to the rich and famous. He has also designed clothes for the Marks & Spencer Autograph collection. He is among 140 designers from around the world who will be showcasig their latest collections during the six-day extravaganza based at the Natural History Museum. Despite his jet-set lifestyle, Macdonald has never forgotten his roots which remain firmly in the south Wales valleys. He returned to his native Merthyr Tydfil in June last year as special guest at an exhibition at his former school, Cyfartha High. |
