Spin-offs: The race attracts entrants from round the world

They want to try and persuade the organisers to consider Milford Haven for the 2005 race.

The 1991 event is thought to have contributed at least �5m to the local economy.

Milford Haven has hit hard times since then, with numerous jobs lost in the area.

A major tourism event would bring in welcome revenue once again to the local economy.

More than half a million people visited the port of Greenock for The Cutty Sark Tall Ships Race.

First taste

The spin-off from the event was millions of pounds for the Inverclyde economy.

Pubs and restaurants brought in extra supplies to cope with demand.

The race is organised by the International Sail Training Association, and at least half of each ship's crew has to consist of 16-24 year-olds.

Sailing experience is not required and for many of the young people it will be their first taste of life at sea.
